Where to Start with Garden Redesign.

Getting your garden to a point where it works for everyone might seem like an impossible ask.  Especially when you can’t agree on what you want to use it for.  The kids want to kick a ball around and bounce on the trampoline, but you want an area to relax, a vegetable patch, or to build a home office?  Coupled with the fact that you might have limited budget or space! Or you’re fed up investing in expensive plants that fail!  How do you move forward?

First things first, don’t panic!   Secondly, give me a call!

Whatever the brief, it’s my job to ask the right questions to find out what you like and what you don’t.  Let me worry about the details, just think about how you want to use the garden.

I’m used to talking to clients about what they want and putting garden designs together to make sure they get just that.  A recent project in my portfolio is a perfect example, entitled “Unlocking the Garden’s Potential.”

The adults wanted an area to relax and unwind, to introduce planting that encouraged butterflies and wildlife, a stylish covered area where they could chill out even when it’s pouring, grow edibles and create a great view from inside the house.  By contrast the younger kids wanted to kick a ball and the teens wanted an area where they could have some privacy, play computer games and check in with social media.

You’d think achieving all 3 briefs in a residential garden would be impossible! Not at all!

It’s not just about what you want to use the space for but how you want to feel in it. Energised or relaxed?   What views do you want to make the most of?  What does the garden look like from different rooms in the house?

Don’t worry if you don’t have all the answers. My approach is creative and flexible, I find it’s the best way to get great results that are also practical.

It all starts with a chat (and possibly a cuppa!) – we’ll talk about your garden and what you want from it and I’ll overlay the facts on top, things like; aspect, soil, boundaries and space.

I’ve got loads of experience and ideas and will be happy to apply that to whatever thoughts you’ve already had or come up with fresh ideas to get you started.  I’ll convert it into a plan and then into reality.

Just get in touch.

In the client’s words….

“We cannot thank Nicola enough for our garden transformation.   She listened carefully to our wishes and converted them into a fantastic plan which she then project-managed into a wonderful garden.  Incorporating details to ensure it worked for us, like box hedging to protect the borders from our sons’ footballs, so the garden meets all our needs.  She also took great care to source plants that would work together and in the conditions of our garden.

Two years on we are still thrilled with our new garden and everything in it, from the seating designed to give us different views of the garden, to the mini orchard, the vegetable patch and the lighting which means we can even enjoy the garden at night.”
